The reading puts forward three reasons to illustrate the bad effects brought by those prairie dogs. However, the professor refutes these three strongly.
Firstly, the listening argues that the reason why the report had no photo but only draft drawings lied in two aspects. First, the photography technology at that time was not as advanced as it is now. As the imaging techniques was not good, the quality of the photos was low. In addition, when the experiment was conducted, it was cloudy; in such condition to capture the image of a flying plane was too difficult.
Secondly, the reading claims the design of Whitehead’s plane that only had one wing was not logical, for the plane usually had two or three wings at that time. However, the professor disagrees. In the recent, some researchers have made a copy of Whitehead’s plane based on his design diagram. They tested the copy planes four times, and each of them was successful.
Finally, the reading suggests that Whitehead had produced many engines and sold them to several aircraft builders, but in fact none of those engines used in planes had ever succeeded, illustrating that Whitehead had not successfully tested his plane. But the professor argues the problem that those engines did not work could not be blamed to Whitehead. It was because the technology was not so developed at that time and aircraft builders knew little about designing planes. The fact that there were people buying Whitehead’s engines actually proved that his design had no problem.
College is a place that the students can learn more and new knowledge and experience in it. Of course, different people have different reason to study in college. For example, some people want to be to go on a further study after they graduate from the college; some people hope to find a good job after their studying in the college and also some people wish to exchange their present situation through studying in the college. In my opinion, no matter what reason people study in the college for, studying in the college is just a preparation for their future life.
First of all, students can learn new knowledge and experiences from the studying in the college. There are many teachers, professors with abundant teaching experience who teach students lots of new knowledge and help them to solve the problems in their study. With their help, student can learn a lot of useful basic and professional knowledge which is very helpful for their future work. and study. After they finish their study in the college, students go to work in the society and contribute to the different fields. Secondly, students can learn how to arrange their own time reasonably. Before their studying in
college, their life often arranged by their parents and their study often arranged by their teachers. It is very different for them to live and study in college, because students studying in college have to arrange their life and study by themselves. They have right to arrange their part time, such as when to get up, when is the sport-time, when to finish the assignment etc. This is very important experience for students' work and life in the future.
Secondly, studying in the college make students having opportunity to live with other student and learn how to cooperate with other people. Usually, people often have uncomfortable feeling to live with a stranger, because they do not know each other and perhaps their habit and personality are different. But for the long run, it is good for them. They have to cooperate with each other and solve a lot of problems they will face together. Gradually, they can learn how to care and understand other people. It is a preparation for students to go to cooperate with other people in the society.
All in all, students not only can learn lots of new knowledge from the books but also can learn much more necessary experience such as how to arrange time and how to cooperate with other people. It is ver important for their future work and life.

The writer and the speaker have a debate on feeding bird during the winter. The writer believes it has negative influences on birds, which is opposed by the following lecture.
First, the writer claims that birds gather easily, thus spreading diseases. While the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle, according to him/her, the diseases that spread in Hinch are always group-by-group. It has nothing to do with humans.
Secondly, the passage states that bad weather results in shortage of food supply. However, the speaker casts doubt on this opinion by saying that if humans feed birds, extra nutrition will make them stronger and healthier, enhancing the speed of reproduction. The number of new-born birds will be larger than the number of dead birds.
Last, the writer argues that it will influence birds’ migration pattern. By contrast, in accordance with the speaker, this claim does not hold water. It will not disturb the pattern of natural migration, because birds will depend on shortened sunlight to decide the migration time.
While some countries have strong programs against illiteracy, others still do not care that much. But, illiteracy has become a big obstacle during the last century and is still problematic question now with quick development of technology and automation. From my everyday experience and observation I can state several factors which defend the statement that reading and writing now is more important than ever before.
First of all, it is essential for a person to have at least basic knowledge of reading and writing to survive in our society. While in the past, some people could live in wilderness or even in cities without any knowledge of written language, now it is almost impossible. The way of living has change so much that it is impossible to be a part of nation, especially in developed countries, without ability to read and write your bills, to understand your mortgage documents or job applications. Moreover, you can go nowhere by yourself but in your own small town without reading the maps and signs on the roads and in cities.
Second, nowadays, most of jobs require reading and writing as necessary skills and tendency that these skills will be more and more important for future jobs increases. In fact, because of sharp development of technology, more of jobs on the labor market are for literate people and less of them are for people without any or slight reading or writing knowledge. For example, there are not needed so much people who can work on lands or select parts in auto-factories because the
machines do that kinds of jobs now. On the other hand, factories and corporations need people who can read the instructions and control the machines. It is bare true that without jobs that need only physical abilities, illiterate people are forced to be constantly on unemployment lists.
In conclusion, the most scare part of living illiterate in our society is maybe living dependable of someone. A illiterate person will have difficulties not only to do simple tasks such as writing bills, withdrawing money from cash machines, or reading menu in a restaurant, but also to be a productive and useful individual of our society with job and normal life.
Nowadays, the annual incomes of many sports stars and film stars come to millions of dollars. Some people claim that their salaries are too high. Yet, in my opinion, such salaries are well deserved. They work hard to become famous, provide entertainment for us, and win honors for their countries.
First, famous athletes and entertainers make painstaking efforts to achieve fame. Fame is a wonderful thing to have, but it seldom appears overnight. Famous people have worked hard for years to achieve their fame today and they have to continue their good work to maintain it. For their hard work, sports and entertaining stars deserve to be generously rewarded. Unfortunately, people tend to focus on the huge amounts of money made by them. They rarely appreciate the efforts that athletes and entertainers have to make in order to achieve the fame that they have today. For example, in order to win the first place in a 100-meter dash, an athlete has to cover hundreds of miles during training. Famous stars deserve their high salaries because they have worked hard.
Second, sports and entertaining stars provide us with good entertainment. On weekends, many of us attend a football match that includes Beckham, see a movie that stars Julia Roberts, or go to a concert that features Celine Dion. These people help us make good use of our free time by entertaining us. As a result, we feel inspired as well as relaxed. In other words, we feel energetic again after attending the events. We even feel that we have more to enjoy in life and have new aspirations. For such reasons, these people are worth their high salaries.
Third, athletes and entertainers win honors for their countries. For example, after four years’ hard work, many athletes win gold medals at the Olympics Games. They are able to make millions of dollars a year after the games. Such high salaries are justified, because these athletes have won honors for their countries in the most competitive arena and have made their people proud, something few people can even dream of. This is true for entertainers as well. Many actors and actresses receive high salaries after they have won Oscars or prizes at Cannes Films Festival. Those people also deserve high salaries, because they have made a name in films for their country and have made their country better known by people elsewhere in the world.
All in all, famous athletes and entertainers merit their high salaries, for their hard work, entertainment they provide, and their contribution to their country. If I had a chance, I would be a famous star who can make millions of dollars a year.
Now days, more and more people are trying to attend college or university. Different people do so for different reasons. Some typical reasons are new experiences, career preparation and increased knowledge. In my opinion, it is the fast developement, almost explosion, of our world that make people to consider attending college or university.
People would usually get bored when they focus on one field for a long time. For this reason, they go to college to pursue experiences in new areas. We often hear that an electrical engineer went to a university to study art or music. With the new experiences, they expand their ken. Maybe some good ideas would jump out during their daily work.
As for the young, they attend college for career preparation. Not only could they get knowledge needed for their future work, they could learn how to think and how to solve questions. The projects students attended are very like their future work.
Some people, who have been graduated from universities for years, are also planning to go back to school. Most of them reattend universities to increase their knowledge. Techlogy is developing so fast that people could not keep up with them unless they keep increasing their knowledge.
All in all, people, who attend college or university, are preparing for their better futures.
There are many people want to go to university or college every year and they decide to do so for many different reasons. I believe there are three common reasons are to prepare for career, increase their knowledge and get new experience. Prepare for career is very important for young people nowadays. In a competitive society, if they have not a good educational background, they will not get a good opportunity in their career or even cannot find a job, so college and university can provide them new skills to meet the requirements of career.
Also, students attend to university or college can increase their knowledge in subjects they interested, for many people, this is maybe the primary reason to go to college. There are many excellent professors and experts can give us a plenty of knowledge which including many areas. For many people this maybe their last chance for a long time to get knowledge that don't relate to their career.
Besides looking for knowledge, some people want to go to college or university because they decide to live a new life. University can support young people an environment where they can intercommunicate about many topics such as literature, goal of life, art and emotions which are hard to talked about after their university lives, so it is a special experience for young people to live and study in college or university.
All in a word, I prefer increase knowledge and get a special experience to prepare for career in university because getting good opportunities in career is partly depend on your knowledge and experiences on diverse areas.
Access to education is an indispensable part of one’s privilege regardless of one’s gender, culture, and family background. When it comes to the availability of educational resources, some believe that it is more difficult for kids from common household to get decent education due to the wide gap between rich and poor and the ever-increasing tuitions, while others claim that it is much easier for people to have access to different educational resources than ever before. I, personally, tend to argue that multiple educational resources are more accessible to modern people based on the following reasons.
First off, the advent of technological gadgets makes it possible for people from common family backgrounds to gain access to education. To be more specific, with the appearance of smart phones, tablets and computer laptops, it is easier for people of all age groups, including adolescents and teenagers, to get access to all kinds of education resources. For example, with internet access and a laptop, which is basically a necessity for everyone, people of all age groups can get proper education especially with the establishment of massive on-line open course like courser, Edx, etc. These massive on-line courses covers a wide range of topics ranging from computer science, coding, to language learning and soft skill development. In sharp contrast, a few decades ago, people from poverty-stricken areas had never dreamed of attending the lectures offered by world-renowned professors, however, with the above-mentioned resources, it is absolutely possible for those people to realize their dreams. Thus, state-of-the-art technology makes if possible for people to have full access to high quality educational resources.
Additionally, governments have put so much financial and human resources to provide education at different levels so that people enjoy a better chance to be educated. For instance, Chinese government spared no effort in this regard since education from kindergarten to twelfth grade is fully subsidized and such educational experience is accessible to children from both rural and urban areas. Besides, institutions of higher learning and various research centers receive state fund, and the figure is so phenomenal that it is not exaggerated to claim that it is in billions of U.S. dollars. Such foundations can be for multiple purpose, like purchasing advanced science equipment, attracting bring young researchers and scientists, funding cutting-edge research to improve people’s livelihood, directly and indirectly. All of these institutions and universities are in a better position to provide education resources to people.
In conclusion, it is much easier for people to get education of all level ranging from kindergarten to tertiary education since education comes in handy with advanced technological tools like these massive on-line courses and governments’ effort to improve people’s educational experience.
