Psychologist tell us that stress is a state of worry caused by the problem of living , such as too much work or study , heavy responsibilities , and quickened pace of life .
Statistics show that stress comes from every detail in our life . Financial problems , poor health , being laid off may be the stress that most adults now suffering . As students in the university , we are also under our special stress . While study , having to take various tests and submit a project against a deadline may put a great pressure on us . And the things make us felt stressed may be our parents's greater expectations on us than we could reach . Later , when we are likely to graduate , some other problems will also annoy us . I think we will worry a lot about our ability to compete in the job market and how we can best use what we've learned at college in our future job .
The chief problem we should face to is our atitude towards stress .People usually say they can not live in the sun except they escape from stress . It's unwelcome ! Yes , however , very necessary . Just image a world where stress does not exist and people lead their life in a very comfortable way . But is this kind of living condition as perfect as we hope ? Without stress , they may feel very satisfied with the current life but lack of power to discover new things . Too much satisfaction result in nothing except a countermarch of the society . No stress , no development . So a certain amount of stress is good . It can stimulate us and increase our level of alertness .
And our answer to stress is another vital problem . How to do with ourselves when stress suddenly break into our life ? To wave the white flag and admit our unability , to give up to our ideality , or worstly , just to suicide as to put an end to everything. Of cause not . The principle is to tackle with stress gentlely and harmoniously. We should try our best to release ourselves . Such as to do some exercise , to linsen to traditional Chinese music or classical music to ease our minds and to learn to view these changes of life as challenges .It's no use crying over spilt milk . Only to accept what has happened can solve the problem .
Ok , I think I was under large stress 3 minutes before , but now I am here and have finished my speech . Here is the last thing I want to add to my topic ,face to it and overcome it ,stress is also a piece of cake .
That is all . Thank you very much.
To accomplish great things, you must dream great dreams. But dreaming alone isn’t enough, you must believe in your dreams and you must act. Without action, even the most grand of dreams evaporate into the ether when left unnurtured in the misty realms of the mind.
Do you dare to be a dreamer? Prepare to go it alone. Dreamers build bridges between the known and the unknown. As you dance your dreams into reality, those who can’t hear the music may think you a fool. Pay no heed to those who would kill your dreams, small minds always do that. Great minds will encourage you that you can become great too.
Afraid you haven’t got what it takes? Then get it! Feed your mind the mental food it hungers for.
There was a dog breeder who had two dogs that raced every weekend. He took bets and always won. One week he’d bet on his black dog, and the black dog would win. The next week he’d bet on the white dog, and folks seeing the black dog win the week before would bet, but this time the white dog would win. Why? One week he’d feed the dog he wanted to win a grand diet, and just give the other dog enough to survive. The dog that was well fed was stronger and would always win the race.
Your mind is the same way; it grows stronger or weaker with what you feed it. The diet of the mind is what gives you the confidence, courage, knowledge, and the direction you need to succeed in your dreams, or keep you from them. You can build your mind up or tear it down. The choice is yours and you make it every day.
Have you been waiting for the right time to reach for your dreams? Have you been waiting for the right circumstances to reach for your dreams? Have you been waiting for the right opportunity to reach for dreams? My, you’re patient, aren’t you? You could be waiting forever, you know. Time is an illusion. Circumstances are what you make them. Opportunity is a whisper that waits for your invitation, it doesn’t burst in and shout its arrival.
Now is the right time. Circumstances change when you take action. Opportunity is yours for the making. So what are you really waiting for?
Here’s how you’ll know if you’ve become all you can be: If you’re alive, you haven’t.
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!I am glad to stand here .I hope you can enjoy my speech and give me suggestions. My name is Jack Jones.I come from Beijing , the capital of china. It,s a beautiful place which I am pround of it.So many people like to come to visit it.There are mang places of interests in Beijing. For example: the great wall of china ,Gugong and Tiananmen etc.I am 14 years old .My hobby is watching movies and taking photos.I have a lot of photographs about my hometown, I will let my friends have a look at them someday . I am sure you will love the beautiful scenery. I also love to sing songs .My favourite stars are Jeff Zhang 、Jacky Chen and Wanglihong. I want to be a friend of you !Do you want to be my friends?
My Pledge My Oath
I can’t stand my poor English!
I can’t stand my ten years of wasted time!
I can’t stand being looked down upon!
I can’t stand being laughed at!
I want to improve my situation!
I want to change my life!
I want to be successful!
I want to be international!
I don’t want to let my parents down!
I don’t ever want to let my country down!
Most important, I don’t want to let myself down!
I want to speak perfect English!
I want to understand all kinds of accents!
I want to write beautiful articles!
I want to read thousands of books!
I want to translate freely between Chinese and English.
I want to be the master of the world’s two most important languages: Chinese and English.
I must act at once!
I must open my mouth to practice!
I must surprise them with my excellent English!
I must realize my dream!
I must succeed!
Since we go to school, we are taught that no pain, no gain, it means thatif people want to be successful, they must work hard. But the truth is that noteveryone can get what they want, even they work hard so much, but if workinghard does not bring success, why should they still need to work hard. In myopinion, working hard doesn’t mean the person can success certainly, successneeds more factors, like the time, the luck and other things. There is no doubtthat if the person does not work hard and fight for his goal, there is no wayfor him to get what he wants. Some actors start their career at the very youngage, when they are also 40, they become famous suddenly, if they give up, theycan’t be waiting for their reputation. So working hard, there is much chance toget succeed.
this is for my people who just lost somebody, your best friend, your baby, your man
or your lady. lift your head to the sky, we will never say bye.
these are words of the song bye-bye. every time when i hear it, i’ll always lose myself in grief recalling the tough time we came through in 20__.
the snow storm, the tibet issue, the obstruction to the olympic torch relay, the earthquaketime dates back to the day the horrible earth quake occurred in sichuan, tens of thousands of people lost life and families. i’ll never forget those days i sat front of the tv, moved by people never gave up under ruins even there’s little hope to survive. i’ll never forget those days most newspapers and websites were all in black and white. i’ll never forget those days i had my black coat on, writing down my best wishes to the suffering people.
at the same time, i also remember those days my friends abroad told me that they joined in the protest against western world’s bias on china and the fight against the tibetan separatists. i can still remember the day when i went to see the torch relay at hangzhou with heart shaped stickers on cheek. i wore the t-shirt with words light the passion, light the dream . when the torch passed by, we cheered go china, go beijing, sang the national anthem again and again, waving flags, dancing, hugging, clapping. it was the opening ceremony of 20__ beijing olympic games which shocked the whole world and told the entire human yes, we can.
yes, we can, because we are united and brave
yes, we can because we have trust and love
yes, we can because we are the member of the great nation china
but there were problems. one problem is there are some sounds in arabic that just don't make it through a european voice box without lots of practice. trust me on that one. also, those very sounds tend not to be represented by the characters that are available in european languages.
here's one of the culprits. this is the letter sheen, and it makes the sound we think of as sh -- “sh.“ it's also the very first letter of the word shalan, which means “something“ just like the the english word “something“ -- some undefined, unknown thing.
now in arabic, we can make this definite by adding the definite article “al.“ so this is al-shalan -- the unknown thing. and this is a word that appears throughout early mathematics, such as this 10th century derivation of proofs.
the problem for the medieval spanish scholars who were tasked with translating this material is that the letter sheen and the word shalan can't be rendered into spanish because spanish doesn't have that sh, that “sh“ sound. so by convention, they created a rule in which they borrowed the ck sound, “ck“ sound, from the classical greek in the form of the letter kai.
later when this material was translated into a common european language, which is to say latin, they simply replaced the greek kai with the latin x. and once that happened, once this material was in latin, it formed the basis for mathematics textbooks for almost 600 years.
Heal the world, makes it a better place. for you and for me, and the entire human race. just as what the song sings, it is very important for us to protect the environment.
There is one thing in common in my family, that is, no matter in my father’s workbag, in my mother’s purse, or even in my schoolbag, there is a pair of chopsticks. strange? let me tell you the reason. my mom said: “just as if we eat out one time a day, we’ll save 1000 pairs of chopsticks in a year’s time. that means we have saved a big tree.
My dad said: “without every single person, there is no human race. so, it is everyone’s duty to protect the environment. saying a thousand times of protecting environment is not as useful as putting a pair of chopsticks in your bag.
I said: “this is a good habit, i shall pass it to the next generation. the pair of chopsticks reminds us that it is our duty to protect the environment, to save our planet. my dear friends, have you put a pair of chopsticks in your bag? if you haven’t, just do it now.
Honorable judges, ladies and gentleman, good morning.
I want you to tell me something. What’s the first thing that pops into your mind when you hear the word faith, a sacred and heart-warming word that’s supposed to remind you of all the beauties and goodness of life, the key that used to keep us going when confronted with all sorts of hardships and obstacles. However, when I hear the word faith, the thing it reminds me of is so remote and intangible. In this rich and peaceful era, there aren’t as many disasters or wars, especially for us young people whose lives are much easier and wealthier than our fathers’. So is faith gradually losing its significance in the human world nowadays?
Like many of others, I used to think of faith as of no importance at all, and I deemed myself as a faithless person. I thought I can live my life perfectly fine without intentionally grasping something as my faith. Until one day I met an American Christian named John, who later became a very good friend of mine. John is an extremely faithful Christian, and he thinks of Jesus Christ as his lord. He, as a pastor, tried to convert me into a Christian when we first met. So he lectured me with his extensive knowledge of history and philosophy every time we hung out. In spite of his amazingly detailed description of the history of Jesus, what really got me intrigued is not the story he told, instead, is John himself as probably the first and most faithful person I’ve met in my entire life. I can feel the sparks in his eyes when he talks about biblical things, and I am so touched by the integrity of him when he says:” Jesus Christ is the ultimate pursuit of my life” without any hesitation or doubt.
The more we got along, the more I became jealous of him, because he always seems to be joyful and optimistic. When I ask him how he manages it, he said:” I’ve had bad days too, but I also know that God is with me. So I know that it’ll all be okay.” Suddenly it occurred to me how lucky it is to have something you can completely put your trust into, something that will bring you strength when your mind is weak, something that reminds you “ it’s not so bad” when you’re filled with sorrow, something that gives your existence significance and bring it up to a higher level. So I was literally converted, not into a Christian, not into someone faithful either, but into someone who wants to be as faithful at least.
That was the first time I am exposed to the power of faith. To put it simple, your life is complete only if you have faith. You must find something important and significant in your life, your purpose, your pursuit, whatever you call it. I’m not saying faith must relate to religion or God. It could be anything. It could be your career goal, your children, your lover, fellowship, or a certain kind of life style, anything, as long as you dare to trust your life in it with your heart of hearts.
Now I’m still faithless. I haven’t become a Christian or find what matters to me most yet. But what John gave me is whole new perspective to see life. So I’ll strive to really feel and touch the beauty in life and won’t take it for granted. And that’s also what I encourage all of us to do. Keep looking for the faith of your own, and when you do, you’ll know it’s all worth it.
how Thanks giving- dear teacher, the poet said: spring flowers to the door pushed open . i said: thanksgiving to the door pushed open the living. if you carefully listen to the voices of flowers, are everywhere harmonious life movement. then, as a middle school student, how thanksgiving? first thanksgiving their parents, because everyones life is a continuation of the parents of one blood, all of the parents gave us love, let us enjoy the human world of affection and happiness, therefore, we would like to thank the parents. teachers are our growth, are our friends, teachers care for us , their words and deeds, let us benefit for life, we pay for teachers efforts and sweat, we should thanksgiving teachers. students study the lives of our fellow students to encourage each other, help each other, to jointly overcome difficulties and setbacks, the common taste of success and happiness learning, we should be grateful for every day and we accompanied the students. thanksgiving-fighting, thanksgiving unlimited! students,

Dear every leader, teacher, dear students: hello, everyone, the title of my speech today is: "I love reading!
In the blue sky, who is the most happy? Is the bird, because the blue sky gave the bird a pair of hard wings; In the vast sea, who is the most cheerful? Is the fish, because the sea gave the fish a vast world; If you ask me what is the most happy, I will not hesitate to answer: read! Because the book gave me infinite knowledge, gave me the wisdom of the mind, the book gave me a broad world. I think the happiest thing in the world is reading a book. In the book to read, in the hands of the a treasure, opened the read that a pious. When you read, your mind in it in the book, your emotional ups and downs in the book, this is the charm of the book.
When I was a child, I grew up in mother's story. In each night, under the soft light, mother began to tell me interesting story books, listened, I slowly, unwittingly entered the sweet dreams - in blue in the night sky leisurely, I seem to become a star with wings, flying freely in the universe... Suddenly, I dreamed that he turned into a story of bambi, kindhearted dwarfs, poor stray dogs, stray cats... Listen to mother those amazing beautiful story, staring at the mother's hand book, I started to know, the original there are so many interesting stories in the book! From then on I began to love books,
In my spare time, I like a man immersed in the sea of book, taste the story in the book quietly. I was down to the little match girl sympathize with tears; Had to "the emperor's new clothes" stupid emperor and laugh; More Madame Curie, Nobel they pursue science, strong dedication spirit and moved. I was like a busy little bees, tirelessly to collect pollen in gardens, and like a sponge, day and night to water in the ocean of knowledge. I learned from the book in infinite wisdom and power. When I grow up, I have a more profound meaning of the story in the book. Great poet johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said "reading a good book, like with a group of noble person dialogue." Yes, a good book, can give us the power of the spirit.
Literary masters have insight and vision, to infiltrate seen their own ideas, communicate with the reader in the book, therefore, in the book there is the spirit of the masters. "Notre Dame DE Paris" is full of fury, Hugo to corrupt society is permeated with he to love, to humanitarian yearning, always flashing the light of human nature in the book; The true story of ah Q like needle pierced Chinese callousness of skin; "The analects" midstream shows the figure of Confucius' teaching; Pushkin's poetry is permeated with the hate evil rule... They taught me to identify good and evil, taught me to do good, to hate evil. From the book, I learned to appreciate and learn the true, the good and beautiful, I feel the love from the book, to understand the evil.
In the process of reading, I also met difficulties. When I read something when swallowed, the teacher taught me: to read without thinking, is equal to eat without digestion; When I was on the words in the book after, mother encouraged me: read a book hundreds of times, its righteousness; When I write a diary to write a composition was dried up, the author's teacher told me, reading books and do not accumulate, like a person in baoshan, but came back; When is indiscriminate in bookstores optional I borrow, mother advised me: read a good book, and many noble people talk, instead it is better to don't read. Gradually, I see, one to read a good book, reading to accumulate, to read more to think about.
I love reading. Book is the treasure house of knowledge, it is her, broadened my horizons and enriched my life; Book is the ladder of human, is she, help me to improve and progress; Books are the source of happiness, is her, to give me happiness, brings me satisfaction. Reading, how nice!
"Asked canal which had so much, to have a source to." Boys and girls, let's drink the "origin", climbing the ladder of human progress, become a knowledge of the rich, the spirit of the giant! With the book, we have the whole world; With a book, we will have a better tomorrow! The classmates, and I love reading together! Let elegant companion we grow happily, let books to nourish our life!
My speech finished, thank you.
I am a boy who loves baroque music, especially the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. At my age, loving classical music is seen as an exceptional taste, but I don't agree with this. For me, age is irrelevant when it comes to music. The most important thing about listening to classical music is to have a heart of godliness.
Bach is considered now to be one of the greatest musicians ever. Why is that? I feel it is because of his devotion towards god. Bach had devoted his whole life to revealing the glory of the lord by music. Composing, for Bach, was a way to connect the divine world and the mortal world. Similarly, I have devoted my musical taste and life towards listening to Bach's music. In other words, the way I view Bach is how Bach viewed god. With this same kind of piety, I am able to connect with Bach on an emotional level, which allows me to overcome the difficulties and frustrations I face in life. I consider myself to be very similar to Bach because we are both persistent in setting and achieving goals.
The spirit of Bach's music inspires me and helps me to face my life with a new determination to fulfill my goals. It is evident that Bach's music has and will continue to shape my life in years to come.
If you're able to listen to classical music with emotion even just once, I know that you'll find a new positive influence in your life just as I did.
smoking and health
today smoking is a widespread habit ali over the world. not only the old,the youth, but also middle school students have been engaged in smoking. many ofthem think that smoking is a smart symbol.

now, i tell you this story about summer camp. i could have told you 50 others just like it -- all the times that i got the message that somehow my quiet and introverted style of being was not necessarily the right way to go, that i should be trying to pass as more of an extrovert. and i always sensed deep down that this was wrong and that introverts were pretty excellent just as they were. but for years i denied this intuition, and so i became a wall street lawyer, of all things, instead of the writer that i had always longed to be -- partly because i needed to prove to myself that i could be bold and assertive too. and i was always going off to crowded bars when i really would have preferred to just have a nice dinner with friends. and i made these self-negating choices so reflexively, that i wasn't even aware that i was making them.
now this is what many introverts do, and it's our loss for sure, but it is also our colleagues' loss and our communities' loss. and at the risk of sounding grandiose, it is the world's loss. because when it comes to creativity and to leadership, we need introverts doing what they do best. a third to a half of the population are introverts -- a third to a half. so that's one out of every two or three people you know. so even if you're an extrovert yourself, i'm talking about your coworkers and your spouses and your children and the person sitting next to you right now -- all of them subject to this bias that is pretty deep and real in our society. we all internalize it from a very early age without even having a language for what we're doing.
now to see the bias clearly you need to understand what introversion is. it's different from being shy. shyness is about fear of social judgment. introversion is more about, how do you respond to stimulation, including social stimulation. so extroverts really crave large amounts of stimulation, whereas introverts feel at their most alive and their most switched-on and their most capable when they're in quieter, more low-key environments. not all the time -- these things aren't absolute -- but a lot of the time. so the key then to maximizing our talents is for us all to put ourselves in the zone of stimulation that is right for us.
A man was walking along the street when he saw a woman struggling with a large box. It was half in and half out of her car. He was a nice man, so he went up to the woman and said, “Let give you a hand with that box, It looks very heavy.”
“That is very kind of you,” the woman said. “I’m having a lot of trouble with it. I think it’s struck.” “Together we’ll soon move it.” The man said, He got into the back seat of the car and took hold of the other end of the box. He said, “And he began to push hard.”
For a few minutes the man and the woman struggled with the box. Soon they were tired. “Let’s rest for a minutes,” the man said,” I’m sorry, but it is struck.” A few minutes later, the man said, “let’s try again. Are you ready?” Both of them took hold of the box again. “one, two, three!” the man said, and they went on with their struggle.
At last, when they were very tired, the man said, “you’re right, It is really struck, I don’t think there’s any way we can get it out of the car.”
The woman cried. “I’m trying to get it in!”
nevertheless, things just happened in a casual way. when i caught a high fever again when young, mum had to send for the doctor home to treat me. i was so sick that i became quite drowsy and then slept. when i suddenly woke up in the afternoon, i found the liquid in the bottle had already flown over ,while mum and dad were not around. i yelled, but finally found it was of no use. so i jumped out of the bed and pulled up the tubule. in the nature of things, the blood came out and dropped along the way i went downstairs. things became different at the time i went down alone. i discovered that i could be independent. i was much stronger than i had thought. looking back on the girl who cried all day, i came to understand suddenly that the strong part of the inner myself had been existing all the time. seeing the anxious mum, i revealed a big smile to her. i could see that mum was trying to hold her tears back and scrubbed my blood on the hand. she didn't know that her little girl had stealthily grown up.
what is nature? its everything that exists in the world independently of people, such as pants and animals, earth and rocks, and the weather.
now more and more people are focusing on the nature. it is no doubt that the nature is important to every human being. no nature, no life. because of the supplies of the nature, we have lived happily for a long time. and we started to gain every thing available from the nature. and this lasted so long a time. today, people have discovered that the nature around is getting worse and worse.
what is threatening the nature? air and water pollution, overharvesting of plant and animal species, overpopulation and so on. overpopulation is the biggest source of pollution. lets take overpopulation as an example.
what does overpopulation feel like? when we move slowly through the city in a tazi. when we enter a crowded slum district. when the temperature is high and when the air is thick with dust and smoke. the streets are crowded with people. the streets seem alive with people. people eating. people washing. people talking. people sleeping. people visiting each other, arguing and screaming. people relieving themselves. people pushing their hands through the taxi windows, begging. people leading animals. people, people, people, people. as we drive slowly through the crowd, sounding the taxis horn, the dust, heat, noise and cooking fires made it like a scene from hell! i admit, frightening.to the nature, overpopulation is a big problem. more people, more pollution. and the big population is threatening the nature every second.
the rapid rise in world population is not creating problems only for the developing countries. the whole world faces the problem that raw materials are being used up at an increasing rate and food production can not keep up with the population increase. people in rich countries make the heaviest demands on the worlds resources, its food, fuel and land, and cause the most pollution. a baby born in the united states will use in his lifetime 30 times more of the worlds resources than a baby born in india. unless all the countries of the world take united action to deal with the population explosion there will be more and more people fighting for a share of less and less land, food and fuel, and the future will bring poverty, misery and war to us all.
for most of the developing countries, it is a good idea to control the population growth. for example, china has carried out birth control for years. and this plan has a GREat effect on the world population.
if the population continues to increase, if the air and water continue to be polluted, if we dont do something to protect wild-plant and wildlife species will be declining. species and biological communities have difficulty adapting to change. economic opportunities and the quality of life of future generations are also put at risk. by protecting nature, we protect ourselves.
lets unite together, hand in hand we stand all across the land.
we can make this world in which to live. hand in hand. control the population growth. take good care of our nature.

Can money buy happiness? Different people have different opinions. Somethink yes, while others hold the opposite.
It is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants, andlive a life of comfort and security. However, it is equally true that lack ofmoney causes great distress. It is a common view that "money is the root of allevil." The pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. In someplaces there is nothing that cannot be bought with money, resulting in corruptsocieties where everybody is miserable.
So, money does not necessarily mean happiness. It all depends on how it isused. If we make honest and sensible use of money, it can be a stepping-stone tohappiness l Although money cannot buy happiness, it can make happiness possibleif it is employed sensibly.
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen:
When I was in the primary school, I have a dream. I want to invent a device which could bring you from one place to another in no time at all. When I was in the secondary school, my dream was to study in my ideal university. And when eventually I got into the university, my dream was to graduate.
How pathetic! When we grow up, we dream less and become more realistic. Why? Why do we have to change our dreams, so, so in order to let it be
Ladies and gentlemen, the reality is not real. It is a barrier keeping us from all the possible fantasies. Flying, for example, had been a dream to mankind for thousands of years. A hundred years ago,
People say that our future is a battle between the reality and our dreams. And if, unfortunately, Mr. Reality wins this war, then I see no future of mankind at all. AIDS will never be curable as this IS the reality; People living in the undeveloped countries will suffer from starvation forever as this IS the reality; 4)Disputes among different countries would never be settled as this misunderstandings and intolerance IS the reality.
Ladies and gentlemen, how many of you have a dream of being able to make a lot of money? Please raise your hands. Oh, quite a number of you! Actually, ladies and gentlemen, this is not a dream, but a task. Every one of us has to make a living, right? Anyway I hope your task will be accomplished. How many of you think that you have already fulfilled your dream and that you don't dream anymore? Dear 5)adjudicators, what do you think? C.S. Lewis once said,
Now that I am a university student, my goal is to graduate with excellences. But at the same time, I have a dream deeply rooted in our future. One day, people living in the areas now 6)sweltering with the horror of wars will be able to sit with their families and enjoy their every moment. One day, people from the rich countries are willing to share what they have with those from the poor countries
and those from the poor countries will eventually be able to make their own happy living themselves. One day, different cultures in this age of globalization will coexist with tolerance and the unfriendly confrontations among them will be 7)eliminated. One day, the globe will share the dream with me and we will all contribute to making our dream come true. One day, our dream will defeat the reality!
Thank you very much.
I have received many presents when I have my eleven birthday party. My parents give me a teddy bear, my uncle gives me a book. My best friend gives me a goldfish. Among all the gifts, I love the goldfish the most. I always want to have a pet in the family, but my parents don’t allow me to keep one. Now I have my own goldfish. I will keep it and take good care of it. This goldfish is very beautiful. Its colour is pink. I love watching it swimming in the water. Sometimes, I will feed it. I wish it can grow up with me. This is the best birthday present ever!
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Want to know how to feel bad about yourself? These tips are 100% effectiveand are guaranteed to make you feel really, really bad about yourself!
No.1 Compare yourself to everyone and everything around. Pick out thingsthey have that you don't;think how “lucky” they are and how “unlucky” youare.
No.2 Tell yourself over and over again things like “I am horrible”, “I amugly”, “I am disgusting”, or “I am useless.”
Sometimes, without even really knowing it, we can actively choose to bemiserable! In reality, it is more likely that you would like to invite feelingsof low self-esteem into your life. Low self-esteem has been attributed as beinga major obstacle to success. A recent survey conducted by the China PopulationCommunication Centershowed that nearly half of the interviewed studentssaid thatthey lacked a sense of security in social interactionsand suffered from lowself-esteem. Young people are the back bone to the nation. Their actions andattitudes are like a barometer of the health of a society. If our youth arecourageous and have faith in themselves, they can contribute to the developmentof our nation and our society will be in good health. On the contrary, if theysuffer from low self-esteem, our society will get sick.
I would like to share with you a true story about Nicholas James was born with Tetra-amelia, a rare disorder characterized by the absence ofall four limbs. He struggled as a child, eventually came to terms with hisdisability and started his own non-profit organization Life Without Limbs – atage seventeen. He is widely known as a motivational speaker, giving talksworldwide on life with a disability, hope, and finding meaning in life.
He was bullied at school, Vujicic grew depressed and by the age of 8,contemplated suicide. At age 10, he tried to drown himself in 4 inches of water, but did not go through with it out of love for his parents. After praying togrow arms and legs, Vujicic eventually realized that his accomplishments couldinspire others – and became grateful for his life. A key turning point came whenhis mother showed him a newspaper article about a man dealing with a severedisability. Vujicic realized he wasn't unique in his struggles and began toembrace and transcend his disability.
This man, the soldier of life, came to my hometown 2 months ago. I got tolisten to him, and talk to him, face to face. I could never forget the look inhis face when he said “when I was young, I always feel cold, and dark. My firstdream was to grow arms and legs, but there is no future for me at all. ” Andnow, 28 years has passed since he was born, 28 years without arms and ’s first dream didn't come true, but he didn't lose his faith of himself, and the faith of this life.
Nick is living a life without limbs, and also a life without are to him, young people, there is no excuses to lose our faith in ourselvesand this world. I understand that life couldn't be anything we want it to be,and life couldn't bring us everything we long for, sometimes, life even takesaway our cherished ones. However, we are young; we are the hope of the wholeworld. Faith is right there within our reach.
Never lose faith, let us make to our life, to our future a dearpromise.
In my 18 years of life, there have been many things. University days are the best part of them. I can never forget the days when I stepped into my university. I was impressed by its garden-like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learning atmosphere. I at once fell in love with it.
After the arduous military training, I get absolutely absorbed in my studies. The classes given by the teachers are excellent. They provide us with information not only from our textbooks but from many other sources as well. They easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as I can.
Frankly speaking, at first I had some difficulty following the teachers. However, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers' guidance, I made remarkable progress. Now I've benefited a lot from lectures and many other academic reports.
Learning is a long process; I'll keep exploring in the treasure house of knowledge to enrich myself. This summer I got out of the ivory tower and entered the real world. A publishing house offered me a part-time job in compilation and revision.
At the beginning I was belittled by my colleagues. But they were really surprised when I translated seven English articles over 5,000 words on only one day. Gradually, they began to look at me with respectful eyes. In their opinion I turned out to be a useful and trustworthy colleague.
I also realize that only those who bring happiness for others can be truly happy. So I often take part in activities concerning public welfare. I once went to a barren mountain village with my classmates. We taught the kids there who could not afford school. While showing them how broad and how civilized the outer world is, I was deeply touched by their eagerness to learn, their honesty and their purity. I couldn't control my tears on the day when we left. The precious experience with the poor kids made me aware of the responsibility on the shoulders of us, future teachers.
Besides study and social practice, there are entertainments as well. I do body building every day, hoping to keep healthy and energetic. We also write a play and put it on in our spare time.
Campus life is the most splendid time. But different people have different choices. The majority of students cherish their beautiful season and cherish the hope that one day they'll become outstanding. But there are indeed some students still under ignorance. They gather together for eating, drinking or playing cards. They're busy in searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. They forget completely about their mission as college students and the hope of their motherland.
Finally, I do hope everybody can try their best to become a worthy citizen of the country. I do hope everybody can become the backbone of our nation and make great contributions to society!
I would like to begin by congratulating all of you, the students, the faculty, the administrators, on celebrating the centennial year of your university. Gongxi, Beida.
As I’m sure all of you know, this campus was once home to Yenching University which was founded by American missionaries. Many of its wonderful buildings were designed by an American architect. Thousands of Americans students and professors have come here to study and teach. We feel a special kinship with you.
I am, however, grateful that this day is different in one important respect from another important occasion 79 years ago. In June of 1919, the first president of Yenching University, John Leighton Stuart, was set to deliver the very first commencement address on these very grounds. At the appointed hour, he appeared, but no students appeared. They were all out leading the May 4th Movement for China’s political and cultural renewal. When I read this, I hoped that when I walked into the auditorium today, someone would be sitting here. And I thank you for being here, very much.
Over the last 100 years, this university has grown to more than 20,000 students. Your graduates are spread throughout China and around the world. You have built the largest university library in all of Asia. Last year, 20 percent of your graduates went abroad to study, including half of your math and science majors. And in this anniversary year, more than a million people in China, Asia, and beyond have logged on to your web site. At the dawn of a new century, this university is leading China into the future.
I come here today to talk to you, the next generation of China’s leaders, about the critical importance to your future of building a strong partnership between China and the United States.
The American people deeply admire China for its thousands of years of contributions to culture and religion, to philosophy and the arts, to science and technology. We remember well our strong partnership in World War II. Now we see China at a moment in history when your glorious past is matched by your present sweeping transformation and the even greater promise of your future.
Just three decades ago, China was virtually shut off from the world. Now, China is a member of more than 1,000 international organizations -- enterprises that affect everything from air travel to agricultural development. You have opened your nation to trade and investment on a large scale. Today, 40,000 young Chinese study in the United States, with hundreds of thousands more learning in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
Your social and economic transformation has been even more remarkable, moving from a closed command economic system to a driving, increasingly market-based and driven economy, generating two decades of unprecedented growth, giving people greater freedom to travel within and outside China, to vote in village elections, to own a home, choose a job, attend a better school. As a result you have lifted literally hundreds of millions of people from poverty. Per capita income has more than doubled in the last decade. Most Chinese people are leading lives they could not have imagined just 20 years ago.
Of course, these changes have also brought disruptions in settled patterns of life and work, and have imposed enormous strains on your environment. Once every urban Chinese was guaranteed employment in a state enterprise. Now you must compete in a job market. Once a Chinese worker had only to meet the demands of a central planner in Beijing. Now the global economy means all must match the quality and creativity of the rest of the world. For those who lack the right training and skills and support, this new world can be daunting.
In the short-term, good, hardworking people -- some, at least will find themselves unemployed. And, as all of you can see, there have been enormous environmental and economic and health care costs to the development pattern and the energy use pattern of the last 20 years -- from air pollution to deforestation to acid rain and water shortage.
In the face of these challenges new systems of training and social security will have to be devised, and new environmental policies and technologies will have to be introduced with the goal of growing your economy while improving the environment. Everything I know about the intelligence, the ingenuity, the enterprise of the Chinese people and everything I have heard these last few days in my discussions with President Jiang, Prime Minister Zhu and others give me confidence that you will succeed.
saying goodbye to childhood,we step into another important time in the pace of young, facing new situations, dealing with different problems.....
everyone has his ownunderstanding of young,it is a period of time of beauty and wonders, only after you have
experienced the sour ,sweet ,bitter and salty can you really become a person of significance.thre time of young is limitted,it may paby without your attention, and when you discover what has happened ,it is always too late.grasping the young well means a better time is waiting for you in the near future,or the situation may be opposite .
having a view on these great men in the history of hunmanbeing, they all made full use of their youth time ,to do things that are useful to society,to the whole mankind, and as a cosquence ,they are remembered by later
generations, admired by everyone.so do something in the time of young, although you may not get achievements as these greatmen did ,though not for the whole word, just for youeself, for those around!
the young is just like blooming flowers, they are so beautiful when blooming, they make people feel happy, but with time passing by,after they withers ,moet people think they are ugly.and so it is the same with young,we are enthusiastic when we are young, then we may lose our passion when getting older and older.so we must treasure it ,don't let the limitted time paby ,leaving nothing of significance.
2.
ladies and gentlemen , good afternoon! i’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. today my topic is “youth”. i hope you will like it , and found the importance in your youth so that more cherish it.
first i want to ask you some questions:
1、 do you know what is youth?
2、 how do you master your youth?
youth
youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind ; it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshne; it is the freshneof the deep springs of life .
youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease. this often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . nobody grows old merely by a number of years . we grow old by deserting our ideals.
years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul . worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust .
whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living . in the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wirelestation : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .
when the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.
thank you!
I take with me the memory of Friday afternoon ACM happy hours, known not for kegs of beer, but rather bowls of rainbow sherbet punch. Over the several years that I attended these happy hours they enjoyed varying degrees of popularity, often proportional to the quality and quantity of the accompanying refreshments - but there was always the rainbow sherbert punch.
I take with me memories of purple parking permits, the West Campus shuttle, checking my pendaflex, over-due library books, trying to print from cec, lunches on Delmar, friends who slept in their offices, miniature golf in Lopata Hall, The Greenway Talk, division III basketball, and trying to convince Dean Russel that yet another engineering school rule should be changed.
Finally, I would like to conclude, not with a memory, but with some advice. What would a graduation speech be without a little advice, right? Anyway, this advice comes in the form of a verse delivered to the 1977 graduating class of Lake Forest College by Theodore Seuss Geisel, better known to the world as Dr. Seuss - Here's how it goes:
My uncle ordered popovers from the restaurant's bill of fare. And when they were served, he regarded them with a penetrating stare . . . Then he spoke great Words of Wisdom as he sat there on that chair: "To eat these things," said my uncle, "you must excercise great care. You may swallow down what's solid . . . BUT . . . you must spit out the air!"
And . . . as you partake of the world's bill of fare, that's darned good advice to follow. Do a lot of spitting out the hot air. And be careful what you swallow.
Thank you.
