PP： Okay， and here's what I think was really， really interesting， is that at the end of the 15 minutes， we asked the players to talk about their experience during the game。 And when the rich players talked about why they had inevitably won in this rigged game of Monopoly —— （Laughter） — they talked about what they'd done to buy those different properties and earn their success in the game， and they became far less attuned to all those different features of the situation， including that flip of a coin that had randomly gotten them into that privileged position in the first place。 And that's a really， really incredible insight into how the mind makes sense of advantage。
Now this game of Monopoly can be used as a metaphor for understanding society and its hierarchical structure， wherein some people have a lot of wealth and a lot of status， and a lot of people don't。 They have a lot less wealth and a lot less status and a lot less access to valued resources。 And what my colleagues and I for the last seven years have been doing is studying the effects of these kinds of hierarchies。 What we've been finding across dozens of studies and thousands of participants across this country is that as a person's levels of wealth increase， their feelings of compassion and empathy go down， and their feelings of entitlement， of deservingness， and their ideology of self—interest increases。 In surveys， we found that it's actually wealthier individuals who are more likely to moralize greed being good， and that the pursuit of self—interest is favorable and moral。 Now what I want to do today is talk about some of the implications of this ideology self—interest， talk about why we should care about those implications， and end with what might be done。

Helping every american with autism achieve their full potential is one of this administration’s top priorities. at the u.s. department of health and human services, we continue to strive to meet the complex needs of all people with autism spectrum disorders (asd) and their families. while there is no cure, early intervention is critical and can greatly improve a child’s development.
Perhaps the biggest step we’ve taken to support those affected by autism and their families happened over a year ago, with the signing of the affordable care act. now, new insurance plans are required to cover autism screening and developmental assessments for children at no cost to parents. insurers will also no longer be allowed to deny children coverage for a pre-existing condition such as asd or to set arbitrary lifetime or annual limits on benefits.

My qualification for making such suggestions, or observations, besides having kindly been invited to speak today by President Tilghman, is the same as the reason that your obnoxious brother or sister got to go to bed later--I am older than you. Life is amazingly unpredictable; any 22-year-old who thinks he or she knows where they will be in 10 years, much less in 30, is simply lacking imagination. Look what happened to me: A dozen years ago I was minding my own business teaching Economics 101 in Alexander Hall and trying to think of good excuses for avoiding faculty meetings. Then I got a phone call... In case you are skeptical of Forrest Gump's insight, here's a concrete suggestion for each of the graduating seniors. Take a few minutes the first chance you get and talk to an alum participating in his or her 25th, or 30th, or 40th reunion--you know, somebody who was near the front of the P-rade. Ask them, back when they were graduating 25, 30, or 40 years ago, where they expected to be today. If you can get them to open up, they will tell you that today they are happy and satisfied in various measures, or not, and their personal stories will be filled with highs and lows and in-betweens. But, I am willing to bet, those life stories will in almost all cases be quite different, in large and small ways, from what they expected when they started out. This is a good thing, not a bad thing; who wants to know the end of a story that's only in its early chapters? Putting aside the reality that no system, including our own, is really entirely meritocratic, meritocracies may be fairer and more efficient than some alternatives. But fair in an absolute sense? Think about it. A meritocracy is a system in which the people who are the luckiest in their health and genetic endowment; luckiest in terms of family support, encouragement, and, probably, income; luckiest in their educational and career opportunities; and luckiest in so many other ways difficult to enumerate--these are the folks who reap the largest rewards. The only way for even a putative meritocracy to hope to pass ethical muster, to be considered fair, is if those who are the luckiest in all of those respects also have the greatest responsibility to work hard, to contribute to the betterment of the world, and to share their luck with others. As the Gospel of Luke says (and I am sure my rabbi will forgive me for quoting the New Testament in a good cause): "From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded" (Luke 12:48, New Revised Standard Version Bible). 5. Since I have covered what I know about sociology, I might as well say something about political science as well. In regard to politics, I have always liked Lily Tomlin's line, in paraphrase: "I try to be cynical, but I just can't keep up." We all feel that way sometime. Actually, having been in Washington now for almost 11 years, as I mentioned, I feel that way quite a bit. Ultimately, though, cynicism is a poor substitute for critical thought and constructive action. Sure, interests and money and ideology all matter, as you learned in political science. But my experience is that most of our politicians and policymakers are trying to do the right thing, according to their own views and consciences, most of the time. If you think that the bad or indifferent results that too often come out of Washington are due to base motives and bad intentions, you are giving politicians and policymakers way too much credit for being effective. Honest error in the face of complex and possibly intractable problems is a far more important source of bad results than are bad motives. For these reasons, the greatest forces in Washington are ideas, and people prepared to act on those ideas. Public service isn't easy. Hello, everyone! It’s my great honor to make a speech today. First, please allow me to introduce myself briefly. I am a student from Zhejiang province. The topic of my speech is “protecting the blue planet”.
We have only one earth,- the blue planet. There are everything that adults and children are suitable to live. That is the same meaning of human’s home. Therefore, our children’s future depended on our action. However, we are facing many problems nowadays. For example, environment pollution, climate change and reduction of resources. It’s significant to know how to protect our world.
To begin with, we should understand the problem of environment pollution is more and more serious all around the world. With the development of industry and agriculture, cars make great noises and give off poisonous gas. Waste water is being poured continuously by some industries. What‘s worse, people are cutting down increasing number of trees which is used to make oil. What we can do first is to enhance our consciousness with strengthens.
Second, in order to save our resources, such as trees, electricity and water. We can see saving the resources as our duty. In our daily life, we could use cloth bags rather than plastic bags. Also, reducing the frequency of using the disposable products even rejecting. When it comes to save water, we can turn off the tap whenever we see. To governments or sections of organizations, we should create some policies and implement them when we faced with a global threat. Let’s do an experiment, if you carry out my suggestion a week or a month, you will become more enjoyable and meaningful. And the company will become one of the sustainable enterprises.
Last but not the least, the epidemic of covid-19 was outbreak unconsciously, we have no choice, but to unite, and do it fast. Under the circumstances, some countries choosed not to cooperation. I must say, it was an incredibly shortsighted approach. Though covid-19 is exposed first in China, it didn’t mean we are the only one origin of this disease. As the disease found, China governments at all levels have taken the protecting work priority. By sharing the vaccines and medicines in time, the condition of covid-19 turned well among our country. On one hand, our government carried the pleasure from the world. On the other hand, our people were facing the fear. It’s unfair to criticize China. So,first of all,i’d like to show you the current situation of energy using. energy conservation and emission reduction means to save energy and reduce harmful gas emission. with the development of science and technology, our life has become more and more colorful. however, it is also associated with huge energy consumption.
Here is a picture, it shows that with the continuous development of human society, our consumption of energy is more and more huge. as we know, nowadays, our main source of energy is non-renewable resource. its storage capacity is very limited, and most of them have been used , and still being consumed very quickly .
Here is a bar chart , from which we can be aware of the importance and urgency of energy saving in addition, there are some picture about the greenhouse effect. because a large amount of greenhouse gas emission, global temperatures are rising .it give cause to the rise of sea level ,and natural disasters is frequent…..
Now,let’s turn to the second part,why is energy saving so important?in order to let the world be still beautiful, we need to do something .for one thing, energy conservation and emission reduction will slow down the energy consumption, and save the resources; for another, we are also protecting the environment at the same time,it can reduce greenhouse gas and other harmful gas emission. according to the survey, in our country, coal accounted for 80% of total electricity, but coal will produce large amounts of greenhouse gases.
So,the most important part is coming,in our daily life,how can we save energy? there are many ways, such as: turn off the lights when you needn’t, drive less and walk more , save pa-pe-r, plant more trees.

One day in 1819, 3,000 miles off the coast of Chile, in one of the most remote regions of the Pacific Ocean, 20 American sailors watched their ship flood with seawater.
They'd been struck by a sperm whale, which had ripped a catastrophic hole in the ship's hull. As their ship began to sink beneath the swells, the men huddled together in three small whaleboats.
These men were 10,000 miles from home, more than 1,000 miles from the nearest scrap of land. In their small boats, they carried only rudimentary navigational equipment and limited supplies of food and water.
These were the men of the whaleship Essex, whose story would later inspire parts of “Moby Dick.”
Even in today's world, their situation would be really dire, but think about how much worse it would have been then.
No one on land had any idea that anything had gone wrong. No search party was coming to look for these men. So most of us have never experienced a situation as frightening as the one in which these sailors found themselves, but we all know what it's like to be afraid.
We know how fear feels, but I'm not sure we spend enough time thinking about what our fears mean.
As we grow up, we're often encouraged to think of fear as a weakness, just another childish thing to discard like baby teeth or roller skates.
And I think it's no accident that we think this way. Neuroscientists have actually shown that human beings are hard'wired to be optimists.
So maybe that's why we think of fear, sometimes, as a danger in and of itself. “Don't worry,” we like to say to one another. “Don't panic.” In English, fear is something we conquer. It's something we fight.
It's something we overcome. But what if we looked at fear in a fresh way? What if we thought of fear as an amazing act of the imagination, something that can be as profound and insightful as storytelling itself?
It's easiest to see this link between fear and the imagination in young children, whose fears are often extraordinarily vivid.
When I was a child, I lived in California, which is, you know, mostly a very nice place to live, but for me as a child, California could also be a little scary.
I remember how frightening it was to see the chandelier that hung above our dining table swing back and forth during every minor earthquake, and I sometimes couldn't sleep at night, terrified that the Big One might strike while we were sleeping.
And what we say about kids who have fears like that is that they have a vivid imagination. But at a certain point, most of us learn to leave these kinds of visions behind and grow up.
