Good morning, my dear teachers What is friendship? The answers may be different. But one thing is clear that friendship is the most important ingredient in the recipe of life. We cannot live without friendship just as we cannot survive without air and water. Friendship gives us a feeling of security and warmth, and friendship encourages us to go ahead all the time.Everyone needs friends and is eager to get friendship. When we feel happy, we can share our happiness with friends. When we feel gloomy, friends will comfort us. If we are arrogant, our friends can persuade us, and they can make us confident and brave when we are discouraged.
Friendship is valuable. It can touch your heart and give you hope. Many people are proud of having a good friend. True friendship must be sincere and must not have conditions. If you help your friends for no reason but simply because they are your friends, this means that you regard your friends as yourself. This is true friends.
True friendship should be based on mutual understanding, not on mutual benefit. Moreover, both must also have similar ideals. If not, their friendship still cannot last long. Sometimes, people have good friends when they are young and studying in school. However, after graduation, when they are working in the society, their friendship will soon come to an end.
Mutual understanding doesn’t always mean that we should know every thing of our friends. It means that they have similar ideals and trust each other. On the other hand, doing similar things can build up the friendship.
In fact, friendship isn’t always easily kept. When you want to keep a friend, you should treat him or her like you want to be treated. Keep the secrets that your friend tells you. Keep your promise with your friend. Share things with your friend. Stick up for your friend. We should try our best to protect the friendship from being hurt. As an old saying goes, “Friendship cannot stand always on one side.” True friendship should be able to stand all kinds of tests.
Because of friendship, our lives are full of happiness. Therefore, the more friends we have, the more pleasure we can share with them. Let’s say “Thank you” to our friends for their love and care. No matter where we go or who we become, never forget to keep the beautiful friendship!
Some people regard work as the goal of life and spare no pains to pursue a fulfilling career. Others regard work as a means to achieve the value of life, emphasizing the meaning and significance of life itself. I think work is just a part of one’s life. To work means to live, and to live must involves work.
First, when one works, he also lives.
There is not a period of time when one is only working but not living. Therefore when one works hard and feels happy about his achievements, he is also living fruitfully. There is no need to say that he just "lives to work". Second, it is impossible to imagine a life without work. Marx once said that work is the basic need of the human race. Work is not only a breadwinning process, but is also a process of exploring the unknown world, creating beauty, providing help, expressing love, friendship and care. Anyone would hate a life without work, and I think only those who work well enjoy their life best.
To conclude, I am firmly convinced’ that work is a part of life. So enjoy your work, for when you make progress and have fun in your work, you are also enjoying your life.
My topic is Honesty
As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragons tooth. This is a true story.
65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.
In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragons mouth.
He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 2002, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm wele.
When James visited Qingdao, I acpanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct ones error.
Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of my friends: Lets be honest people of good moral character.
Thank you.
Love makes the world go around.Love to us human is what water to fish.Love shines the most beautiful light of humanity,we born in it,we live by often we take it as granted, but we should know love is a priceless gift we should cherish.I have heard a saying :the quickest way to receive love is to give it; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly the best way to keep love is to give it wings. It is important for us to learn to love as the first class in our life.
Good morning,ladies and gentlemen:
This is a glass of water.Tasteless ,worthless, right?Yes,nobody of us willtake care of it ,nobody of us will lament for pouring it .But if i say, thisglass of water in front of you is the last one in the world.Would you like toalter of it with one thousand dollars,One million dollars,or all yourwealth? Now,a simple thing becomes a difficult decision. In our life,we wash ourteeth while keeping the water running from the tap everyday morning. In summer, wetake bath at least three times a day.In winter,as hot water in bottles becomingcold,we pour it on the ground without hesitation. We take all these for grantedbut that all changed for a simple thing happened to me. Last summer holiday, myfriend Shirley invited me to visit her grandmother who lives in a remotemountain area.In front of her house, there laid a small garden in which variousflowers and grass were growing up.The air was filled with the aromatics.Hergrandmother was ready to take out some water from the well. She told us that thevillagers had to get water from the well because of lack of water and they hadto reuse water. After washing clothes, they took water to wash the floors.Afterdrinking the tea, they took the left to irrigate flowers. What surprised me mostwas that the beautiful flowers in the garden were all cultivated by those lefttea.

Learn How to Say No
we've all been taught that we should help people. it is the right thing to do and will make us popular with others. it may even win us favors in return. however, we must be realistic. we can't say yes to every
request. if we did, we would fail or go crazy for sure. sometimes we simply don't have the time to help. in this case, we must know how to say no politely.
when we need to say no, here is one method we can try. first, we should tell the truth. if we really can't do something, we should just say so. second, we should remember to refuse requests politely. we must communicate clearly, but must also be sincere and sympathetic. a true friend will understand. finally, we must not feel guilty about saying no. sometimes refusing others is the right thing to do. it can save ourselves, and them, a lot of trouble. in short, we cannot please everyone all the time. refusing favors is a part of life.

Each of the contestants has 3 minutes to present a prepared speech and 2 minutes to answer questions raised by the judges.
People often wonder why historians go to so much trouble to preserve millions of books, documents and records.
Why do we have libraries? What good are these documents and history books? Why do we record and save the actions of men, the negotiations1 of government officials and the events during wars?
We do it because, sometimes, the voice of experience can cause us to stop, look and listen. Sometimes, past records, when understood in the right way, can help us decide what to do and what not to do. If we are ever to create lasting peace, we must seek its origins in human experience and in the records of human history.
From the stories of courage and devotion of men and women, we create the inspirations of youth. History records the suffering, the self-denial2, the devotion, and the heroic deeds of people in the past. These records can help us when we are confused and when we really need peace.
The main purpose of history is to create a better world. History gives a warning to those who promote war, and inspiration to those who seek peace.
In short, history helps us learn. Yesterday’s records can keep us from repeating yesterday’s mistakes. And from the pieces of mosaic4 assembled5 by historians come the great murals6 which represent the progress of mankind.
What fear can teach us
One day in 1819, 3,000 miles off the coast of Chile, in one of the most remote regions of the Pacific Ocean, 20 American sailors watched their ship flood with seawater.
They'd been struck by a sperm whale, which had ripped a catastrophic hole in the ship's hull. As their ship began to sink beneath the swells, the men huddled together in three small whaleboats.
These men were 10,000 miles from home, more than 1,000 miles from the nearest scrap of land. In their small boats, they carried only rudimentary navigational equipment and limited supplies of food and water.
These were the men of the whaleship Essex, whose story would later inspire parts of "Moby Dick."
Even in today's world, their situation would be really dire, but think about how much worse it would have been then.
No one on land had any idea that anything had gone wrong. No search party was coming to look for these men. So most of us have never experienced a situation as frightening as the one in which these sailors found themselves, but we all know what it's like to be afraid.
We know how fear feels, but I'm not sure we spend enough time thinking about what our fears mean.
As we grow up, we're often encouraged to think of fear as a weakness, just another childish thing to discard like baby teeth or roller skates.
And I think it's no accident that we think this way. Neuroscientists have actually shown that human beings are hard-wired to be optimists.
So maybe that's why we think of fear, sometimes, as a danger in and of itself. "Don't worry," we like to say to one another. "Don't panic." In English, fear is something we conquer. It's something we fight.
It's something we overcome. But what if we looked at fear in a fresh way? What if we thought of fear as an amazing act of the imagination, something that can be as profound and insightful as storytelling itself?
It's easiest to see this link between fear and the imagination in young children, whose fears are often extraordinarily vivid.
When I was a child, I lived in California, which is, you know, mostly a very nice place to live, but for me as a child, California could also be a little scary.
I remember how frightening it was to see the chandelier that hung above our dining table swing back and forth during every minor earthquake, and I sometimes couldn't sleep at night, terrified that the Big One might strike while we were sleeping.
And what we say about kids who have fears like that is that they have a vivid imagination. But at a certain point, most of us learn to leave these kinds of visions behind and grow up.
We learn that there are no monsters hiding under the bed, and not every earthquake brings buildings down. But maybe it's no coincidence that some of our most creative minds fail to leave these kinds of fears behind as adults.
The same incredible imaginations that produced "The Origin of Species," "Jane Eyre" and "The Remembrance of Things Past," also generated intense worries that haunted the adult lives of Charles Darwin, Charlotte BrontĂŤ and Marcel Proust. So the question is, what can the rest of us learn about fear from visionaries and young children?
Well let's return to the year 1819 for a moment, to the situation facing the crew of the whaleship Essex. Let's take a look at the fears that their imaginations were generating as they drifted in the middle of the Pacific.
Twenty-four hours had now passed since the capsizing of the ship. The time had come for the men to make a plan, but they had very few options.
In his fascinating account of the disaster, Nathaniel Philbrick wrote that these men were just about as far from land as it was possible to be anywhere on Earth.
The men knew that the nearest islands they could reach were the Marquesas Islands, 1,200 miles away. But they'd heard some frightening rumors.
They'd been told that these islands, and several others nearby, were populated by cannibals. So the men pictured coming ashore only to be murdered and eaten for dinner. Another possible destination was Hawaii, but given the season, the captain was afraid they'd be struck by severe storms.
Now the last option was the longest, and the most difficult: to sail 1,500 miles due south in hopes of reaching a certain band of winds that could eventually push them toward the coast of South America.
But they knew that the sheer length of this journey would stretch their supplies of food and water. To be eaten by cannibals, to be battered by storms, to starve to death before reaching land.
These were the fears that danced in the imaginations of these poor men, and as it turned out, the fear they chose to listen to would govern whether they lived or died.
Now we might just as easily call these fears by a different name. What if instead of calling them fears, we called them stories?
Because that's really what fear is, if you think about it. It's a kind of unintentional storytelling that we are all born knowing how to do. And fears and storytelling have the same components.
They have the same architecture. Like all stories, fears have characters. In our fears, the characters are us. Fears also have plots. They have beginnings and middles and ends. You board the plane.
The plane takes off. The engine fails. Our fears also tend to contain imagery that can be every bit as vivid as what you might find in the pages of a novel. Picture a cannibal, human teeth sinking into human skin, human flesh roasting over a fire.
Fears also have suspense. If I've done my job as a storyteller today, you should be wondering what happened to the men of the whaleship Essex. Our fears provoke in us a very similar form of suspense.
Just like all great stories, our fears focus our attention on a question that is as important in life as it is in literature: What will happen next?
In other words, our fears make us think about the future. And humans, by the way, are the only creatures capable of thinking about the future in this way, of projecting ourselves forward in time, and this mental time travel is just one more thing that fears have in common with storytelling.
As a writer, I can tell you that a big part of writing fiction is learning to predict how one event in a story will affect all the other events, and fear works in that same way.
In fear, just like in fiction, one thing always leads to another. When I was writing my first novel, "The Age Of Miracles," I spent months trying to figure out what would happen if the rotation of the Earth suddenly began to slow down. What would happen to our days?
What would happen to our crops? What would happen to our minds? And then it was only later that I realized how very similar these questions were to the ones I used to ask myself as a child frightened in the night.
If an earthquake strikes tonight, I used to worry, what will happen to our house? What will happen to my family? And the answer to those questions always took the form of a story.
So if we think of our fears as more than just fears but as stories, we should think of ourselves as the authors of those stories. But just as importantly, we need to think of ourselves as the readers of our fears, and how we choose to read our fears can have a profound effect on our lives.
Now, some of us naturally read our fears more closely than others. I read about a study recently of successful entrepreneurs, and the author found that these people shared a habit that he called "productive paranoia," which meant that these people, instead of dismissing their fears, these people read them closely, they studied them, and then they translated that fear into preparation and action.
So that way, if their worst fears came true, their businesses were ready.
And sometimes, of course, our worst fears do come true. That's one of the things that is so extraordinary about fear. Once in a while, our fears can predict the future.
But we can't possibly prepare for all of the fears that our imaginations concoct. So how can we tell the difference between the fears worth listening to and all the others? I think the end of the story of the whaleship Essex offers an illuminating, if tragic, example.
After much deliberation, the men finally made a decision. Terrified of cannibals, they decided to forgo the closest islands and instead embarked on the longer and much more difficult route to South America.
After more than two months at sea, the men ran out of food as they knew they might, and they were still quite far from land. When the last of the survivors were finally picked up by two passing ships, less than half of the men were left alive, and some of them had resorted to their own form of cannibalism.
Herman Melville, who used this story as research for "Moby Dick," wrote years later, and from dry land, quote, "All the sufferings of these miserable men of the Essex might in all human probability have been avoided had they, immediately after leaving the wreck, steered straight for Tahiti.
But," as Melville put it, "they dreaded cannibals." So the question is, why did these men dread cannibals so much more than the extreme likelihood of starvation?
Why were they swayed by one story so much more than the other? Looked at from this angle, theirs becomes a story about reading. The novelist Vladimir Nabokov said that the best reader has a combination of two very different temperaments, the artistic and the scientific.
A good reader has an artist's passion, a willingness to get caught up in the story, but just as importantly, the readers also needs the coolness of judgment of a scientist, which acts to temper and complicate the reader's intuitive reactions to the story. As we've seen, the men of the Essex had no trouble with the artistic part.
They dreamed up a variety of horrifying scenarios. The problem was that they listened to the wrong story. Of all the narratives their fears wrote, they responded only to the most lurid, the most vivid, the one that was easiest for their imaginations to picture: cannibals.
But perhaps if they'd been able to read their fears more like a scientist, with more coolness of judgment, they would have listened instead to the less violent but the more likely tale, the story of starvation, and headed for Tahiti, just as Melville's sad commentary suggests.
And maybe if we all tried to read our fears, we too would be less often swayed by the most salacious among them.
Maybe then we'd spend less time worrying about serial killers and plane crashes, and more time concerned with the subtler and slower disasters we face: the silent buildup of plaque in our arteries, the gradual changes in our climate.
Just as the most nuanced stories in literature are often the richest, so too might our subtlest fears be the truest. Read in the right way, our fears are an amazing gift of the imagination, a kind of everyday clairvoyance, a way of glimpsing what might be the future when there's still time to influence how that future will play out.
Properly read, our fears can offer us something as precious as our favorite works of literature: a little wisdom, a bit of insight and a version of that most elusive thing -- the truth. Thank you.

Development and the Environment
It is undeniable that the worsening environment has bee the biggest concern of the present-day world. Land resources are dwindling because of water loss and soil erosion. Waste gases poison the air we breathe. The rivers and lakes are polluted by waste dumped in them from factories. It is probably no exaggeration to say that deterioration of the quality of the environment threatens the existence of mankind itself.
Some people are of the opinion that the environmental problem is the price we have to pay for economic development. But I do not think that this argument is valid. After all, what is the point of economic growth if peoples lives are adversely alfected by worsening environmental pollution?
There is plenty of evidence to show that sustainable development can be achieved by balancing economic growth with protection of the environment. The key to achieving this is to make people aware of the seriousness of the problem. Both governments and ordinary citizens should join hands to make this world a better place to live in, not only for ourselves, but also for future generations.
To end our special news bulletin, said the voice of the television announcer, we're going over to the macaroni fields of Calabria. Macaroni has been grown in this area for over six hundred years. Two of the leading growers, Giuseppe Moldova and Riccardo Brabante, tell me that they have been expecting a splendid crop this year and harvesting has begun earlier than usual. Here you can see two workers who, between them, have just finished cutting three cartloads of golden brown macaroni stalks. The whole village has been working day and night gathering and threshing this year's crop before the September rains. On the right, you can see Mrs. Brabante herself. She has been helping her husband for thirty years now. Mrs. Brabante is talking to the manager of the local factory where the crop is processed. This last scene shows you what will happen at the end of the harvest: the famous Calabrian macaroni-eating competition! Signor Fratelli, the present champion, has won it every year since 1991. And that ends our special bulletin for today, Thursday, April lst. We're now going back to the studio.

Our friends present here:
Once there were two mice. They were friends. One mouse lived in the country; the other mouse lived in the city. After many years the Country mouse saw the City mouse; he said, "Do come and see me at my house in the country." So the City mouse went. The City mouse said, "This food is not good, and your house is not good. Why do you live in a hole in the field? You should come and live in the city. You would live in a nice house made of stone. You would have nice food to eat. You must come and see me at my house in the city."
The Country mouse went to the house of the City mouse. It was a very good house. Nice food was set ready for them to eat. But just as they began to eat they heard a great noise. The City mouse cried, " Run! Run! The cat is coming!" They ran away quickly and hid.
After some time they came out. When they came out, the Country mouse said, "I do not like living in the city. I like living in my hole in the field. For it is nicer to be poor and happy, than to be rich and afraid."
Thank you my speech to this end.
Hi everybody.
In may, there is always a kind of feelings, always have a firm belief in rising. 16 candles lit up the youth milestone in the life journey, we met in the starting line of youth, for it made a regretless promise Duan Shaohua years, ready to go.
Youth is like a eagle flying high, tirelessly, towards the sea of clouds on each level advance, regardless of the ups and downs, and how much heart, how big is the heaven and earth. We in the wide world singing the music of youth, flying dreams of youth. We use of unremitting efforts, the endless pursuit, showing the power of youth.
Life gives us a huge and unlimited noble gift, this is youth: full of power, full of expectation, ambition for knowledge and struggle, full of hope and confidence of youth!
Finally, I want to use liang qichao's words to end today's speech: "young wisdom is the wisdom, is the young rich national wealth, young strong a country is strong, young is the progressive, young males in the earth, the male in the earth." Let's spread the sweat, drink pick-up, chew one with difficulty,Let youth burning under the red flag. Wish every young man holding his own dream, to shoulder their responsibilities, constantly have ridden on the voyage of life, forge ahead!
good morning, everyone. my name is . i'm from cheng zhuang primany school. i'm a i will tell you a story, the topic is the greedy mouse.
you know the cats eat the mice, and they are enimies. but there is a little mouse that don't know it, her name is jerry.
one day, that was jerry's birthday. that morning, jerry's father and mother got up earilier and said to her, "jerry, get up, get up" the little jerry was sleeping and said, "what's wrong?" "today is your birthday, we are going to buy some presents for you." "thank you, dady momy." then they went out.
but at that time, a cat was looking for food. his name is tom. he found jerry's father and mother went out, left their daughter only at home. he was very happy, said to yourself, "oh, now i have food."
then he called 7654321. jerry catched the telephone quickly, "hello" she said, "this is jerry, who's that?" "this is a tom. i'm a cat."

Life, there are three stages - youth, middle age and old age, which is the most precious youth, this period any move will affect the later life, so to speak, adolescence is the foundation of life, the success of future generations is built on this foundation. Have such a book, it says the adolescent age is 13 to 19 year old boy. Carefully thought, (you certainly refers to the students. Are standing on the starting point of a person.
Also said that the book is adolescence has a warm, vigorous can make their own youth, can to some details, sad cry, this is our, happy and do not break composed, impulse and do not break a shrine. Starting on, write a diary, when I grow up one day, one of an adult calm state of mind to see it again, maybe you will be moved to cry, may laugh along while, may do a lot of action, because this is we have youth, beautiful like a dream, happy, like fairy, simple like a leaf, in social this big tree researched under his shade, hot outside has nothing to do with us, we just separated out my own piece of the woods, radiation with his cool and refreshing, but we will feel sorry, because we miss too many opportunities, also failed too much, that is our, happy, may not understand to cherish, simple us. If gave up during this period, the future will be dim light, in the mountains there are so many children to read, as long as some pens, a book and a house can have a class, has no other desire, if we are with them in class, I dare not say we are the children in the city how much stronger than they, perhaps we might as well be "wild child" of these in our eyes, because only a person lost will be more know to cherish, coloured drawing or pattern is more seriously in the face of everything.
For us, after the third day of the examination is a barrier, is very important for us is very serious thing, can take an examination of to a good high school? Can have a good high school life? This is now all doubt there are many people around us, but a loser, is can't afford to defeat the loser, perhaps is a failure, let their cold hearts, they can't make a loss. Maybe they had tried, regret, but too late, discarded after don't come back, actually everybody's strength is similar, just lack of effort and confidence, believe your own power, lost nothing, but can't afford to lose momentum, even if the failure of the end let you stand up, not lying to life, there is at least a fighting, later remembered wouldn't be so sorry, so timid, do not regret it, is belongs to our youth, because when let our master, come on, perhaps, victory come from
Distinguished leaders, teachers, dear students: Hello, everyone, todays topic is: "I love reading."!
Who is the happiest in the blue sky? It is a bird, for the blue sky gives the bird a pair of hard wings; who is most delighted in the vast sea? Fish, because the sea gives fish a vast world; if you ask me what to do most happy, I will not hesitate to answer: reading! For the book gave me infinite knowledge, the book gave me the wisdom of the mind, the book gave me a wide world. I think the happiest thing in the world is reading. The book is worth reading, you are holding in the hands of a treasure, open the reading of a pious. When you read your mind wander in the book, in the book of your emotional ups and downs, this is the charm of the book.
When I was young, I grew up in my mothers story. In every night, in the soft light, the mother began to give me an interesting story of the book, listen, I slowly, imperceptibly into the sweet dreams, you in the blue sky, I seem to have become a winged stars in the universe at ease fly.。.。.。 Suddenly, I dreamt that I had become a deer, a good little man, a poor stray dog, a stray cat.。.。.。 Listening to moms amazing and beautiful stories and staring at moms books, I began to know that there were so many interesting stories in the book! From then on, I began to love books,
In my spare time, I like to immerse myself in the ocean of books and enjoy the stories in the book. I worked for the little match girl shed tears of sympathy; also for "the emperors new clothes" in the stupid Emperor and more uproarious Mrs. Curie, Nobel; their pursuit of science, strong moved by the spirit of. I am like a hard-working bee, tirelessly gathering pollen in the flower garden of the book, and it seems to be a sponge that absorbs water day and night in the ocean of knowledge. I learned the infinite wisdom and power from books. As I grew up, I had a deeper understanding of the meaning of the story in the book. Gerd, a great poet, once said, "reading a good book is like talking to a group of noble people."。" Yes, a good book can give us spiritual strength. The masters of literature have a keen insight into their own thoughts and communicate with their readers in books. Therefore, the book has the spirit of the masters. "Notre Dame de Paris" with Hugo on corrupt society of the church was filled with anger, his love, yearning for humanitarian, the book is always shining light of humanity; "Ah Q" as the needle piercing through the petrified skin; the "Analects of Confucius" in revealing Confucius Pushkins tireless in teaching others figure; filled with poetry a hatred of evil domination.。.。.。 They taught me to identify good and evil, taught me to do good, to hate evil. I learned to appreciate and learn the true, the good and the beautiful from the book. I realized the universal love and understood the fate of evil.
In the course of reading, I have encountered many difficulties. When I was reading when the teacher read without thorough understanding, I read hastily and without thinking, reading without thinking, equal to eating without digestion; when I was in the book the words remain perplexed despite much thought, mother encouraged me: a book to read a hundred times, its meaning from the view; when I write a diary writing pen was exhausted, the teacher told I: reading without accumulation, like a person in Baoshan, but empty handed; when I indiscriminately in the bookstore freely borrowed to see, mother advised me: read a good book, is talking to many noble people, but also do not read. Gradually, I understand, to read books to read, to read to accumulate, to read, but also to think.
I love reading. The book is a treasure trove of knowledge, is she, broaden my horizons, enrich my life; the book is a human ladder, she helped me improve, ceaseless progress; book is the source of happiness is her, give me happiness, give me satisfaction. Its good to read!
Ask him what so clear, as has the springhead." Students, let us drink the springhead, climbing the ladder of human progress, a knowledge of the rich, spiritual giant! With books, we have the whole world; with books, we have a better tomorrow; students, and I love reading! Let the book with our happy growth, let books nourish our life!
My speech is over, thank you all.
