Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm Li Hua, a middle school student fromChina. I read the announcement of the summer camp that you have posted on theInternet and I am interested in it.
I know that you welcome students fromdifferent countries and I'd like to take part in it. I've been learning Englishfor 10 years, and I speak fluent English. What is more, I'll be able to tellstudents from other countries about China and learn about their countries aswell. I hope I will be accepted as a member of your summer camp.
Looking forward to your reply!

At present, a number of middle school students have picked up a bad habit—cheating in exams.
There are four main reasons. First, schools have given students too many exams, some of which are too difficult. Second, some students are not hard-working enough and they don’t work hard at their lessons. Third, some students waste a lot of time playing games or using the Internet. So they don’t have enough time to prepare for the exams. Finally, students have to do so to make their teachers and parents happy.
In my opinion, cheating in exams does great harm to our study. We students should be honest and hard-working. Only in this way can we improve our study and make progress. Besides, our teachers should offer us fewer exams and more time to study for ourselves.
My favourite movie star
My favourite movie star is Jackie Chan. He has won many prizes. He is famous not only in China, but also in other countries.
Jackie Chan is not very tall. He has black hair and a big nose. His eyes are not big, but bright. He always smiles, especially after he beats bad men. Most of his movies are exciting. I think his best movie is Police Story. He often gives money to help poor people, so I like him very much.
Learn to Smile
I remember a song by Westlife, the first line of it is “Just a smile and the rain is gone.” Do you like smiling? I think you should learn to smile.
First, learn to smile at yourself when something unpleasant happens in your life. It you fail an exam or you are misunderstood by your friends, don’t be sad. Just smile at yourself. Smiling at yourself can bring back your confidence. Sometimes the one who beats you is not others, but yourself. And smile can also keep you healthy.
Secondly, learn to slime at others. It will make you communicate better with others. Smiling at others makes yourself happy as well.
In a word, smile is a kind of language belonging to everyone. It passes love and friendship and helps shorten the distance between you and other people. Living with a smile, every day will be great.
Is it OK to tell white lies?
Last week our class had a discussion on whether it is OK to tell white lies. The students have different opinions.
Some think it is all right to tell white lies out of kindness. Besides, white lies can often help people get on well with each other. Sometimes, they may make one more confident.
However, some people take telling lies very seriously. They believe that white lies are lies after all. They do harm to friendship. What’s more, lies never go far.
In my opinion, I have to day that all people lie at times. As long as we’re true to each other, lies, whatever kinds they are, won’t stand in our way.
At present, many students don’t do any reading after class. Here are several reasons. Firstly, a lot of students have too much homework so they have little time for reading. Secondly, many students don’t have the habit of reading. Thirdly, some students spend their spare time on TV or on the Internet.
However, it’s good for us to read. Through reading we can learn more about the world. Reading can also help us think better and make our life more colorful.
In my opinion, teachers should give students more time to read. And students can join a reading club to read more.
